Game Description

The BLUE REFLECTION series began with the release of the first game in 2017, which told the story of an injured former ballerina as she used her powers as a magical Reflector to form bonds with others and fight off the looming threat to the world. From there, this RPG series expanded into an anime and a mobile game release, as well as a sequel console release.

BLUE REFLECTION Quartet contains all four of these emotional stories in a single collection. New features make the series more accessible than ever before, including a reference which both explains the setting for new players and provides a deeper look into the world for returning fans. The games within this collection can be played in any order.

BLUE REFLECTION

Experience academy life and a fantasy world carefully crafted by famed illustrator Mel Kishida and writers Keiichi Shigusawa, Yusaku Igarashi, and Koji Natsumi. Graphics and usability have been improved compared to the initial release in March of 2017.

Character models and environmental textures have been updated to high resolution versions, and new visual effects such as glistening water add to the world’s atmosphere. Furthermore, new features such as increased movement speed while exploring and autosave have been included, offering a more enjoyable experience than ever before.

BLUE REFLECTION: RAY
An anime that tells the story of magical Reflectors clashing with each other over their conflicting beliefs and emotions.

Based on the world of the original BLUE REFLECTION game, this anime was the first additional entry in the BLUE REFLECTION mixed media project, airing from April to September 2021.

BLUE REFLECTION Quartet tells a condensed version of the story, with the major characters rendered in 3D.

Follow Hiori and Ruka as they explore the world of the collective human unconsciousness, known as the Common, while re-experiencing their memories on their way to confront Shino.

The anime’s story will be told as they collect their scattered memory shards, and a new prologue and epilogue will connect this entry to the other works in the series.

BLUE REFLECTION: SUN
A mobile game that told the story of a team of girls living in a dying world as they hold on to hope for the future.

Based on the world of the original BLUE REFLECTION game, this game first released in February of 2023 as part of the BLUE REFLECTION project.

SUN’s story has been remade as a console game in BLUE REFLECTION Quartet, using the systems of BLUE REFLECTION: Second Light to recreate the memorable battles of the original game. This game tells the story of SUN across 24 events featuring new character interactions. The prologue and epilogue from the original release also connect this entry to the other works in the series.

BLUE REFLECTION: Second Light
A console game that tells the story of a group of girls with no memories who find themselves in a strange world. Through their adventures, the girls must look deep inside their hearts, regain their memories, and discover the truth about the world they are living in.

This entry in the BLUE REFLECTION project first came out in October of 2021.

This release for BLUE REFLECTION Quartet features eight additional characters from RAY and SUN who can join you in battle. These new characters also join Yuzuki and Lime as new additions to the Photo Mode! New features such as increased battle speed, faster movement speed while exploring, and event fast-forwarding have been included, offering a more enjoyable experience than ever before.

The Stories of Each Game

BLUE REFLECTION
After a leg injury puts an end to her dreams of becoming a ballerina, Hinako meets Yuzuki and Lime, who grant her strange, magical powers. Hinako is told that if she defeats all of the Sephira currently threatening their world, a wish of hers will come true. Desperate to return to the stage, she sets her sights on gathering shards of emotion known as Fragments in order to grow strong enough to destroy the Sephira.

BLUE REFLECTION: RAY
Hiori Hirahara is positive and upbeat, and always happy to lend a helping hand. Ruka Hanari is shy, awkward, and can never seem to find the right words. Together, they’ll change one another…and the world.

BLUE REFLECTION: SUN
Play as the leader of the “weakest squad in history” in a world on the brink of destruction. Fight the Ash-born Testa, resolve your squadmates’ issues, and hold the line against the spreading corruption.

BLUE REFLECTION: Second Light
While on her way to summer school, Ao suddenly finds herself in a school surrounded by water. Ao isn’t the only one at the school, but the other girls living there have all lost their memories, not even realizing anything was strange until Ao’s sudden appearance. Hoping to find out more about this strange world, Ao and the others band together to explore the otherworldly Heartscape that has shown up beside the school.

Welcome to the first Tactical Extraction Looter where you pit your courage and leadership against fears made manifest as flesh and blood monsters. Lead a crew of Scavengers – simple folk, but tough enough to face their fears, guns blazing. Raid into the twisted City, and get back out with everything your team can carry.

It all begins with a newspaper ad, promising a new gold rush – a ruined City full of riches, free for the taking. Behind the ad stands Doc, a snake-oil genius with blueprints to harness the Nightmare and use it to power a new future. District by District, the story unravels what Doc is actually building and what the hell is going on here.

Every Scavenger rescued on a raid carries one of 16 Fears. Each Fear attracts its own Dreadweaver – that’s what the locals call these Fears incarnate – from spiders packing six six-shooters to creepy puppets coming at you with scissors. Picking who joins the next raid decides which monsters and hazards the crew will face, and what resources they will harvest from carcasses.

Shootouts are turn-based, vicious and fully deterministic: no dice rolls, no hit chances. Every fight plays like a puzzle with guns on a battlefield packed with interactables and hazards. Ricochet a bullet off a milk can, shove a beast into a burning stove, push another into your partner’s line of fire, then chain your kills to keep the turn going. The gap between losing your whole crew and clearing the board in a single turn comes down to how you read the battlefield: it’s a weapon of its own, if you’re clever enough to aim it.

Experience a genre-defining combination of turn-based tactical combat and high risk-high reward gameplay loop of Extraction Shooters. City Districts are infinite, randomly generated and full of dangers and opportunities alike – map nodes lead to combats, useful facilities, altering anomalies and quests. Going deeper raises the Nightmare Level making the fights harder, but the loot more valuable. Backpack space is limited and falling in battle means losing everything – decide when to push your luck and venture deeper for better loot and when to return to the Hideout with what you have. Cowardice rarely pays the bills, but you cannot enjoy your gains when you are dead.

Haul the winnings – weapons, gear, Nightmare Essence and monster parts – back to the Hideout, the only Nightmare-proof corner of the City. Combine harvested eyes, teeth and spines with ordinary junk and ideas ahead of their time to upgrade your reason-defying equipment. Ship systems, crew quarters, industrial and research facilities: You must decide what to build and when, to ensure the ship has what it needs for the perilous journey. Expedite research into different fields. New technologies and improved layouts will not only strengthen the ship but also boost your crew’s morale. Exotic and dangerous research, like the technology of the Borg, is also within your reach. As captain, will you embrace it for the potential it offers, or will you omit it for the dangers it presents?
Exploration and Resource Acquisition – The dangers and opportunities of the Delta Quadrant beckon to be discovered by you and your crew. Scan celestial bodies to locate precious resources that fuel your journey. Find points of interest and oddities along your way, but beware: While the Delta Quadrant may reward the bold, it punishes the careless just as quickly. As captain, you have the final say in plotting a course and defining an approach.
Ship Combat and Away Missions – The journey of the U.S.S. Voyager would not be possible without both combat between ships and away missions to planets or space facilities. For away missions, put together a team based on the individual talents of your crew. A team with skills that complement each other might be best suited for the task, but it is up to you to call the shots. Minimize the risk for the team’s members, rush headlong into danger, or take a scientific approach – you decide. When diplomacy fails, the U.S.S. Voyager and its crew are ready to enter ship combat at your command. From the bridge, you give commands for offensive and defensive maneuvers, targeting enemy ship systems and using special weaponry. Urban Strife is a turn-based tactical survival RPG that blends old-school strategy, open-ended exploration and base survival with real ballistic simulation, ruthless factions and a zombie horde that will eventually come for everyone. You begin as a mysterious patient evacuated by the CDC from an Atlanta lab shortly before the city falls. Half dead, you are rescued by the good people of Urban Shelter, one of the last places left where kindness and apple pie are still on offer. But not much else. Most of these folks are old and frail, their home is falling apart, and monsters of both the undead and living kind are getting closer. You are not chosen. You survive because others pull you back from the edge.

STORY AND SETTING

The zombie virus pandemic has been raging for two years and has dragged humanity back to its most primitive, tribal roots. In Urban, survival means more than staying alive. You need to preserve one small glimpse of civilization, rebuild its defenses, choose who is worth saving, and live with the consequences.

ADVANCED BALLISTICS

Urban Strife features realistic ballistic simulation across all firearms, calculating every bullet trajectory down to each shotgun pellet and each fragment in your homemade grenades. Cover matters. What cover is made of matters too. Hide behind a car engine and you are safe from most calibers. An enemy is mocking you from the other side of a thin wall? Shoot through it with your hunting rifle.

• Bullets follow simulated trajectories instead of abstract hit rolls.
• Shotgun damage is calculated by individual pellet impacts.
• Grenade explosions generate fragments with their own paths.

Combat allows precise targeting of enemy body parts. Before you pull the trigger, an advanced Chance-to-Hit calculator estimates both your percentage odds and your potential damage, taking bullet attenuation into account. Skills, perks and weapon attachments can improve your chances, but bad positioning and bad luck can still ruin the day.

STEALTH AND MELEE

Loud firearms are not always the smart option. When you do not have access to a silenced gun or a crossbow, it is time to go melee. And you can melee with everything under the sun in Urban Strife, from grandma’s frying pan to Lucille’s local cousin, your very own spiked baseball bat – one very personal way to settle a dispute with a zombie about who gets whose brains.

• Use melee weapons when gunfire would attract too much attention.
• Fight with blades, blunt weapons, improvised tools and other questionable solutions.
• Sneak behind enemies for silent takedowns.

RPG AND FACTIONS

Urban is populated by NPCs struggling to survive in their own ways. They have their own survival story and personal agendas. Some are willing to help you, but only if you serve their interests first. Everyone has a dark side and everyone has a speech ready about why their side is righteous.

SURVIVAL AND SHELTER

The Shelter, your base, is central to survival. You find it damaged, overcrowded and close to collapse. Refugees need food, medical care, morale and power. Facilities must be repaired, expanded and staffed. The old suburban residents who built it offer their know-how as engineers, pharmacists, chefs and other specialists. They will be essential to your survival, and you will be essential to theirs.

OLD-SCHOOL TBS WITH A TWIST

Urban Strife uses a classic Action Points system inspired by old-school turn-based tactics, with interrupts and skill-based reactions. To avoid long waits against large numbers of enemies, zombie hordes act in a dedicated simultaneous phase. All undead move together while still making individual decisions, keeping combat tense and readable even when facing overwhelming numbers.

You will investigate, negotiate, coerce and flatter in order to progress your aims. The game’s Trust system means that your choices – even in conversation – really matter. If the townsfolk’s trust drops too low, you will find your choices are affected – if it drops further still, you will surely be tried in court and hanged, or lynched by a frenzied mob. Your character is created in an interactive and fully voiced backstory, defining your gender, early life, skills and career (military, diplomatic, or academic). Narrative options during the main game are affected by these choices.
• Combat – The game involves tactical turn-based combats between you, your allies and your undead minions – versus a range of enemies, natural and supernatural. Harness a range of weapons, rituals, and battle spells to defeat your foes.
• Exploration – The Necromancer’s Tale is set in an alternative-history Kingdom near Venice and the Adriatic Sea, in 1733. This is a time at the cusp of rational thought and superstition; science and magic. The world is dark and dangerous; courtly intrigue collides with black magic even as chemistry emerges from alchemy. A play-through will take between 25 and 50 hours, depending on how much side content and world exploration you engage with, and depending on whether you play the battles or use automatic combat resolution.
